A little about me

Hello and welcome to my website!

My name is Hannah and I have been helping mamas breastfeed as a postpartum nurse going on 7 years! During this time I have discovered my true passion for breastfeeding education. However it was not until I had my own child that I fully understood the beauty and challenges of breastfeeding.

With my experience as a postpartum nurse, I felt prepared for my own breastfeeding journey! I knew how to help other mamas with pumping, latching, and I had picked up a lot of great tips working with the lactation consultants at work!

Just as I expected the first few days breastfeeding in the hospital went super well, but much to my surprise, as soon as I got home it all fell apart. I became extremely engorged and didn’t know what to do, I dealt with nipple pain, pumping pain, I had absolutely no idea how to use the pump I had at home, my baby wasn’t gaining weight as expected and it felt like everything about breastfeeding was a challenge.

I was incredible lucky to have support from the lactation consultants I worked with. They came to my home and helped me, they answered my questions over text, and they helped me in the weekly breastfeeding classes hosted by the hospital.

During this time I also began my own research to find answers to my questions and challenges. I learned about flange sizing, pump settings, nipple pain and supply issues related to nipple shields, reasons for weight gain issues, etc. It was a tough journey, and some of my questions felt impossible to answer (especially nipple pain). It didn’t really get better until about 5 months postpartum. At that point it was smooth sailing until around 9 months postpartum when I became an exclusive pumper.

Although my journey was challenging, I am grateful for the challenges I faced because it inspired me to start the Instagram account @your.breast_friend in order to start supporting and educating other breastfeeding mamas. It also inspired me to learn even more and get my lactation certification to become a certified lactation consultant.

I have learned so much about breastfeeding these past few years, and I am so excited to share evidence based education, answers to common and complicated breastfeeding questions, and information on pumping, bottle feeding, latching and more through my blog posts and online courses.

I hope that this website finds you at the perfect time, and I am able to help you have a more positive breastfeeding experience!
